The Durbar of 1903 was held in Delhi as a historic, grand affair to celebrate the succession of Edward VII and Alexandra to the throne as Emperor and Empress of India. Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Louisa, the Duchess of Connaught were sent to represent the royal family at this magnificent display of British power conceived by Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India. The official coronation ceremony was the main event of the Delhi Durbar. An amphitheatre was specially constructed to host the nobles and princes who were present in the ceremony in their handsome costumes and splendid jewellery.
