Prosanto Roy trained under both Abanindranath Tagore and Gaganendranath Tagore, and the impact of this training is visible in his paintings. Here, he paints his version of an episode from the Arabian Nights, a series that was also rendered magnificently by his mentor Abanindranath. However, on close viewing, his own visual language is evident in the way he breaks the compositional format into multiple compartments, each segment emerging as an individual picture complete unto itself, as well as integrated into the totality of the narrative depicted.
